I had the house rewired about 18 years ago the electrician used 1 mm twin and earth from a 6 amp breaker in the consumer unit to a fused spur with 3 amp fuse for the combi boiler, I am about to have a new boiler installed and want to know if this cable is actually the correct size it has caused no problem but I would have thought 1.5 was more suitable.
3 Answers. It's always best to match a boiler to the output of the system, after all it is simple physics, radiators cannot give out more then their designed output (i.e a 1 kw rad can not output 2 kw's of heat). A 600x1000 single convector rad outputs approx 1kw so a 30kw boiler could heat up 30 of these radiators
May 03, 2000 · Contrary to what some first think, boiler return protection doesn't slow the rate at which the distribution system warms up. Why? Because the boiler is firing continuously during the warm up process. It's putting out all the heat it can during this time, and the mixing device is routing 100% of that heat out to the distribution system. Do #4.
Boiler Systems Operation. In steam heating systems, a boiler furnace heats water by means of a gas or oil-fired burner and turns it into steam. The steam travels through pipes to radiators or convectors, which give off heat and warm the room.

Cooling of flue gas to condensing conditions is already practiced on small hot water boilers but is not widely used in industrial steam boilers because of large surface area requirements and concerns about stack corrosion.
Its not unusual to find a 140,000 btuh boiler along with 200 linear ft of baseboard convectors installed in a 2000 square foot home, although an 80,000 btuh boiler and 100 linear ft of baseboard may have been more than adequate.
Some of the highest-rated units are natural gas-fired, with AFUE ratings as high as 99%. In comparison, many older boilers have AFUE ratings of only 55 to 65%. Therefore upgrading to a high efficiency boiler can vastly lower your heating bills. System Types Boilers can be hot water or steam, and either type can be gas or oil boilers.
Combi boilers are available in three size ranges here at Mr Central Heating; 24 to 27kw, 28 to 34kw and 35 to 42kw. As a rough estimate most flats, apartments and smaller houses, with up to 10, average size radiators and 1 bathroom* will require a 24 to 27kw Combi Boiler.

Most U.S.-made heating systems start at about 85,000 BTUH. To some extent, both gas and oil fired heating systems can be downsized below their rated capacity - up to a point. For example on an oil fired heating boiler, you can down-size the boiler and increase its efficiency by installing a nozzle that burns oil at a lower rate.
To start with, you need to know a bit about your heating and hot water systems (they may well be the same thing) and have a top-line understanding of how they work. You might have: A central heating system made up of radiators and a boiler that also provides your hot water – this is the most usual kind of heating system in the UK[1].
The Size of Your Home. Heating pumps are essential for all hydronic heating systems. Without a heating pump the water, won't be driven round the radiators properly. Work out the number of radiators that you will need in each room by using calculations on the Internet. The number of radiators you have will depend on the size of your room.
The term “boiler” is a carryover from the past when steam boilers were common, which boiled water to make steam. Today’s boilers are water heaters and typically use natural gas. Most can heat water in a range from 145-190 degrees, depending on the radiation system.
This system of multiple boilers also provides security against interruption of heat, with multiple boilers available as back-up. Cascading wall hung combi boilers is especially suitable for small spaces, as these type of boilers can take up less space than a conventional boiler system set up.

By using a HW heater as the heat source it's inherently buffered, and can't short-cycle no matter how small the zone/heat-load, and there are NO modulating burners (mod con or combi) out there that will modulate below even the design-condition heat load of the smallest zone, let alone the zone's average heat load.
Jun 05, 2019 · Boiler system explained (LTHW). In this tutorial we are going to be looking at a typical modern heating system in a commercial building. There are many variations of how this can be configured, but this version is fairly typical of the newer construction commercial buildings.
Jun 18, 2014 · The boiler has to heat all that water from room temperature to, let's say, 180 degrees. That's going to take some doing if there's a lot of water in the system. Consider an old gravity hot water system, for example.

Jun 18, 2014 · This isn't about heat loss. This is about heating a LOT of metal. So . . . is the boiler a cold-start boiler (which means you have metal to heat every time it starts), or is the boiler operating on outdoor reset (where there would be less of a temperature rise each time). All of this changes depending on how cold it is outside, of course.
A water-tube boiler is one in which the products of combustion pass around the outside and heat tubes containing the water. The water tube diameter is much smaller than the shell diameter of a fire-tube boiler, so much higher pressures can be obtained, well over 2000 psi. The furnace and boiler tube area must be

Boiler Size. Boiler size describes the heat output of a boiler in energy units, not the physical size of the boiler. Manufacturers measure boiler output in British thermal units (BTUs) per hour or boiler horsepower (BHP). BHP measurements usually only apply to very powerful and large capacity boilers, since one BHP equals 33,475 BTUs per hour.
It’s measured in kW (kilowatts) and generally the higher the number of kW, the more powerful the boiler will be. Domestic boilers usually range from 24kW to 42kW in size. You need to find a boiler that is just right; a boiler that is too small will not be able to heat your home adequately or produce enough hot water.
