Sunday 5th September

77 Miles, 5 hours 34 minutes.

Weather: Dry, warm, sunny and windy.

Accommodation: Kingston Theatre Hotel

A day full of 'ups and downs'. It started with the knowledge that my legs were very fatigued even before I got on the bike. Things got worse when 5 minutes after leaving my accommodation I turned straight into a headwind for the next 10 miles all the way to Flamborough Head and the gradual uphill climbs did not help matters either.
Luckily, beyond Bridlington the route was virtually flat all the way to Hull and the ride during the middle section as far as Withernsea, affected by a preferred crosswind. It was during this part of the ride, when I felt things were starting to go my way, I picked up another puncture (my fifth) at Aldbrough.
The road changed direction for the last 20 miles and thanks to a strong tailwind, I covered this in just over an hour. Thought of the day - what a difference the wind makes!
