Today was better - if not in body, definitely in mind and this despite the generally unfavourable wind. The ride had nothing really in the way of hills - tomorrow I suspect will be an entirely different matter.
Used the cycleways to get in (Hadrian's Cycleway - passing 'Wallsend') and out of Newcastle - both closely followed the path of the River Tyne. I Crossed the Tyne from Newcastle to Gateshead using the pedestrian Millenium Bridge.
Hit the 4,000 (and 300 hours in the saddle) at Jarrow. Not too much to mention in way of scenery although area between Hartlepool and Middlesbrough gets my vote as the most industrialised I have passed through so far,
Had problem with gear change on the bike leaving Seaham - gear cable replaced in Hartlepool (many thanks to Facchini Cycles and the local constabulary for directing me there).
My own self imposed rules wouldn't allow me to use the 'transporter' bridge across the River Tees into Middlesbrough (i.e as I wouldn't have actually been cycling) so did 5 mile detour using alternative bridge.
