Day 71 Berwick-upon-Tweed to Whitley Bay

Barnburgh Castle in all it's splendour.

Barnburgh Castle in all it's splendour.

Thursday 2nd September

71 Miles, 5 hours 9 minutes.

Weather: Dry, warm and sunny.

Accommodation: Seacrest Hotel

Today's ride should have been a relatively easy one - but it wasn't. The route was all but flat, weather conditions almost perfect and the scenery good, but I wasn't feeling 100% and my mind set was far from right - started blaming everything else including the bike and the road surface!
Passed Lindisfarne Castle on Holy Island early on(albeit at a distance) but by far the most impressive was Barnburgh Castle. Decided with all its numerous sandy beaches and attractive towns and villages (Alnmouth and Warkworth to name but two) the Northumberland coastline is well worth a re-visit.
Spoke to Emma at Alzheimer's Society again today - decision taken to abort publicity event in Newcastle tomorrow due to key media people not being available and to re-organise something for next week.
