Thursday 19th of August. 61 Miles, 4 hours 44 minutes.

Weather: Warm with sunny spells, rain followed later.

Accommodation: Helen and ‘Smiler’

Day started with almost continuous climbing (For well over an hour) followed by a great descent down towards Durness where I was greeted by my first (and long awaited) sight of the north coast of Scotland. Stopped in Durness for an hour to chat with Terry Peoples who had previously offered me accommodation but which I unfortunately couldn’t take up. Passed several beaches beyond Durness and then followed the shoreline of Loch Eriball for several miles. A very long gradual climb was followed by a downhill stretch to the causeway across the Kyle of Tongue. Had a late lunch at the Tongue Hotel where as young couple (Mathew and Cathy) who had got chatting to not only offered me accommodation in Edinbrugh but also without me being aware, paid for my meal. In addition, whilst still there, one of the waitresses (whose name I unfortunately didn’t get) kindly donated £20 to the charity. As I left tongue for the final few miles, the rain fell and by the time I reached my overnight stop I was soaked through!
