Monday 16th of August 76 Miles, 5 hours 47 minutes.

Weather: Overcast/cool/intermittent rain

Accommodation: Caledonian Hotel

The ride today was a daunting prospect because of the distance and terrain to be covered. However, it was made relatively ‘easy’ in the end when after 15 miles I met up with 18 German/Swiss cyclists and 2 guides (one driving a support vehicle and trailer) who were touring Scotland for 12 days. The cyclists provided me company for the next 50 miles all the way to Ullapool and even invited me to join them for a picnic lunch. Despite continued hilly terrain (including 2 length and challenging climbs) the miles flew by and without difficulty (the cooler day undoubtedly also helped) – for the last 10 miles into Ullapool (after fast descent down Corrieshalloch Gorge) the road was basically flat. AS I stopped outside my accommodation my cumulative mileage showed exactly 3000 miles – by way of celebration the Caledonian Hotel provided me with a complimentary dinner.
