Day 53 Inverinate to Kinlochewe

Eilean Donan Castle

Eilean Donan Castle

Sunday 15th of August 58 Miles, 4 hours 32 minutes

Weather: Hot/Sunny

Accommodation: Kinlochewe Hotel

Despite the fantastic weather (too hot if anything) and the still amazing scenery, the enjoyment factor was not the same as yesterday. Today’s ride was a lot harder and energy sapping and the focus was to get through it rather than enjoy the view. A long steep climb 7 miles into the ride provided a quick reality check and this was followed not too long after by two shorter but much steeper climbs. Fortunately, the second half of the ride was a lot easier and Glen Torridon which I had expected to be a very long climb was nothing like I thought and ended with a nice speedy descent into Kinlochewe. Only slight disappointment was that I didn’t check the famous ‘Bealach-Na-Ba’ climb to Applecross (See photos), but then it had never been included as part of my routing from the outset due to its map classification as a ‘minor’ road- the temptation was there, and having considered all the pros and cons (especially the prospect of my worn chain ‘slipping), common sense prevailed and it will have to remain a challenge for another day!
