Day 40 Fairlie to Arrochar

Monday Aug 2nd Fairlie to Arrochar 67 miles 4 hours 47 minutes.

Weather: Dry / overcast / sunny spells later.
Accommodation: Lochside Guest House.

Late start (8.45am) but fast ride all the way from Fairlie to the Erskine Bridge on the outskirts of Glasgow where I crossed the River Clyde. Stopped in Dumbarton to have new rear tyre fitted and had lunch while this was being done. A few miles north of Helensburgh my first 'loch' came into view - an amazing and welcome sight as this to me represented my true arrival in Western Scotland.

Cycling the next 10 miles along the shoreline of Loch Long to my overnight stop in Arrochar was the highlight of the day although the stunning view over the loch to the mountains beyond from my room in the guest house ran it close. My only concern of the day were the 'twinges' and 'tightening' of my left calf muscle - hopefully remedied by a phone call to 'Dr.Nick' and the application of the pain relieving gel in my 'medical kit' that he had recommended I take and I had reluctant
