Friday June 18th

51 miles Ilfracombe to Monksilver (near Minehead)

Weather: Hot and sunny early on and overcast later, no wind thank God!

Accomodation : Philip and Hilary beautiful cottage built in 1560.

A day of big hill climbs and decents along the northern edge of Exmoor Forest – one of the latter leading down into Lynmouth.

Went up a 1 in 4 for the first time near Lynmouth alongside the beautiful Exmoor National Park and burnt brakes his out after coming down Porlock Hill 1 in 4!

Watching England playing Algeria tonight,

Photo 2: Lynmouth harbour seaward.
Photo 3 and 4: View back down hill into Lynmouth – for every decent there is a climb – this started as a 1 in 4 ( steeper that chalk pit, oxted) and continued as a 1 in 8 for the next mile! Made it to the top in one go (knackered) and enjoyed view with great satisfaction.
Photo 6: The dreaded oarlock hill – at least this time I was descending the steeper side although I did manage to ‘burn out’ my front brakes! (new front pads needed - fitted in Minehead ).
Photo 5: My overnight stay in Monksliver – a lovely thatched cottage believed to date back to the 1560 – my stay only marred by watching England’s poor performance against Algeria.
