Phil and his 25 escort cyclists prepare for the Brighton leg

Saturday June 5th

Fun run Old Oxted down to Brighton 41 miles 3 hours 16 mins

Weather - warm and sunny.

On a beautiful summer's day, escorted by 25 other cyclists Phil set off from outside The Crown Inn, Old Oxted in the first leg of his 5000 mile cycle ride in aid of the Alzheimer's Society and Alzheimer Scotland.

About 30 well wishers also turned out to cheer on as the cyclists cycled the "warm up" leg from Oxted to Brighton. Part of their route takes them up Ditchling Beacon, a back breaking climb in cool weather and bound to be unpleasant with the weather in the 80's.

Day one should finish on a pleasant note, Phil is booked into the Grand Hotel, a Brighton landmark, for the first night. On Day 2, Phil will cycle on to Portsmouth and all points west.
